ROUGH RIDERS NEXT FOR BUCKS AFTER 2-1 WIN
Big Open Cup Match Follows Victory Against Columbus

The last-place Columbus (2-7-0) Stars gave the Mid Michigan Bucks a scare, 2-1, on Saturday night in a Premier Development League (PDL) match played at Plymouth-Canton High School. "We'll take the result. I think the boys may have been looking ahead to the big game this Wednesday, but I was pleased with the play of our younger players, like Simon Omekanda and Nate Norman," said Bucks coach Don Gemmell. The Detroit-based PDL Bucks (9-1-1) face the defending D-3 Pro League Champions, the Long Island Rough Riders, next week in Round Two of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup at Berkley's Hurley Field. The winner of that match faces the NY/NJ MetroStars of Major League Soccer in Round Three.

Mamady Koita got the Stars off to a quick start, racing past the Bucks defense in the third minute and sending a high shot over Danny Ferrin, who was making his first start in goal for Mid Michigan. The Bucks followed with two goals of their own in the first half by defenders Ryan Rzepka and Kevin Taylor, both on crosses from Nate Norman.
