KALAMAZOO TIES UP BUCKS CUP CHANCES 1-1 Game Puts the Pressure On Mid Michigan To Qualify
For the second time in three days, the Mid Michigan Bucks minor league soccer team went to two overtimes, but this time there were no heroics, as the match ended in a 1-1 tie. The Bucks (2-0-1) are still alive to qualify for the US Open Cup tournament, with one game remaining - on Monday, May 26th against the Indiana Invaders in South Bend. Mid Michigan must win that game to have any chance for a fifth appearance in the 89-year old tournament, which features teams from all levels (amateur and pro) of adult soccer in America.
After a scoreless first half, Kalamazoo got on the board first on a header by Brian Ombigi from a free kick by Anders Kelto in the 52nd minute. The Bucks continued to pressure the Kingdom and were rewarded with a goal by Knox Cameron in the 60th minute. Like Kalamazoo's goal, it was the result of a header off a free kick, this time from the Bucks' Stephan David. The Bucks out-shot the Kingdom 19-11, while the Kingdom led in fouls 29-18. The physical match also featured six cautions for rough play. Jeff Wiese was in net for Mid Michigan. The Bucks return home on May 31st for a regular season Premier Development match against the Columbus Stars at Berkley's Hurley Field.
