BUCKS TOP KALAMAZOO IN QUALIFIER
Final US Open Cup Qualifier on Saturday in Canton vs. Dayton

The Mid Michigan Bucks minor league soccer team remained undefeated in US Open Cup qualifying with a 2-1 victory over archrival Kalamazoo on Thursday night at White Pine Stadium in Saginaw Township. The Bucks (2-0-1 in qualifying and 2-1-1 in league play) kept their slim hopes of qualifying for the nation's oldest soccer tournament alive with one game remaining - Saturday (5:00pm at Plymouth-Canton High School) against the Dayton Gemini. The Bucks must win and score at least three goals and get some luck around the 14-team Central Conference of the Premier Development League (PDL). The PDL team from each conference with the best four-game record advances to the Cup and several other teams remain in contention, including Chicago (Fire Reserves), Chicago (Eagles), Des Moines, Indiana, Sioux Falls and Denver.

Mid Michigan opened the scoring on a goal by Pat Noonan at the 10th minute of the first half, but the Kingdom answered at the 29th minute with a goal by Nick Pantazi. In an exciting second-half, which featured both teams attacking for all 45 minutes, the Bucks out-shot Kalamazoo 11-4, finally capitalizing on a one-time volley from Adam Heinemann (Ortonville, Mi.), with 21 minutes left in the game. The Bucks kept the pressure on, but could not capitalize to gain that all-important bonus point (teams receive four points for a victory, one point for a tie and one point for scoring three or more goals in a game). Eric Pogue stopped seven shots for the win in net.

Shots: 18 - 10 Bucks
Goals: Bucks - 10th minute Noonan (Scicluna); Kingdom - 29th minute - Pantazi (Carey); Bucks - 74th minute - Heinemann (Scicluna)
Bucks' Line-up: Pogue, Kalso, Djeukeng, Swann, Taylor, Scicluna, Mack (Heinemann-59th min.), David (Detter 64), Khumalo (Presser 59), Snape, Noonan.
Kalamazoo Line-up: Reinhardt, Watson (Carruth 60), Chalmor, Kehog, Maragh, Luya, Daihy (Olmstead 65 / Walton 85), Mariscalco, Yates, Pantazi, Carey (Richardson 73).
